Tonight is Splash! We’ve been getting ready for what seems like forever, but the time has come.
Here’s what’s being said about Splash! around town:
Friday…is the wrap party presented by Latitude 53 in an abandoned building located at 10575 109 Street. Ooh, how exciting. They’ll have DJs and everything. Wine, too. Actually it’s the space once occupied by Donovan’s Fashions, which went out of business. The world of high fashion is a dog-eat-dog industry. —Gig City
Fashion fans of Edmonton should be aware of the Western Canada Fashion Week taking place from March 24–31, and they also know that the week isn’t over without a well-deserved afterparty. Fulfilling that important task is Splash!, a Fashion Week party and fundraiser hosted by the contemporary art gallery Latitude 53. I’m thoroughly stoked about DJ Jaycie Jace’s jams, the amazing food (clearly I’m a starving university student), and of course, the Finlandia vodka cocktails (again, I’m a university student). Oh and don’t worry — the April Fool’s pranks will be kept at a minimum. Probably. —The Gateway
Western Canada Fashion Week is on and, although I’m not modeling in it this year, I’m excited to see some of my friends who are designers showcasing their work. Not to mention getting a break from Uggs and Lulu due to this neverending winter weather. The week wraps on Thursday, but doesn’t really finish until the fantastic after-party [hosted by] Latitude 53. Hello, stylish, pretty people. —The Edmontonian
Advance tickets are gone, but we’ll have some more at the door. See you tonight at 8!
Photographer Buffy Goodman posted on her blog this week about the photoshoot for Splash! If you watched our little promo video or have seen any of the posters around town, you’ve seen her work.
I’m really excited to show you all this SUPER FUN editorial shoot I did a few weeks ago for SPLASH! – a fundraiser on Friday April 1 for Latitude 53, in conjunction with Western Canada Fashion Week. The folks at McRobbie Optamedia and I threw a whole bunch of water at six very lovely, very cooperative models at Eastglen Pool. Although I was pretty close to the action, I somehow avoided getting wet, and so did my cameras! Bonus!
Her post includes some of the shots, including some you haven’t seen yet, and just a little bit of a hint about the party itself.
Advance tickets for Splash! are just available until 8:00 PM today, so snatch one while you can

The Edmonton Journal has a story today on Splash!—in particular, about the artworks made from Edmonton leisure centre uniforms that are due to be auctioned off at the event.
Staff at Latitude 53 approached more than 20 painters, illustrators, fashion designers, graphic artists and industrial designers to participate in the project. They were given a choice of uniforms to work with, including red lifeguard tank tops and T-shirts, light blue polo shirts, some track jackets and a few hoodies, all worn by leisure centre staff.
“They were given a lot of freedom to do whatever they wanted with them,” says Vicky Wong, development co-ordinator at Latitude 53, who is overseeing the project.
You can find the full article on the Journal’s web site. Check back here on Monday and through next week for more about Splash! in the lead-up to the event—it’s less than a week away!
And, if you haven’t yet gotten one, be sure to reserve your ticket at www.latitude53.org/splash.
This week at Latitude 53 communications HQ we’re looking towards the future, getting ready to announce details of our next batch up upcoming shows to the world. But it’s not all off-in-the-distance type stuff: the future is going to be here quicker than you’d think.
For instance, we’re happy to announce that we now have tickets for Splash! at the gallery ready to be purchased at your leisure. You can also reserve them online at latitude53.org/splash. If you’ve been itching to know more about the event we can also tell you that our DJs have been confirmed in Jaycie Jayce (of Shout Out Out Out Out and NRMLS WLCM) and the Sideponytail crew (that means Campos, Doubletights, Smallcaps and friends). Last year Jaycie Jace and two thirds of Side Ponytail (which didn’t properly exist back in those distant times) rocked 53 Ways to Leave Your Lover so we know it’s going to be great.
Now, I’ve got to get back to reading about our spring gallery shows.
Tickets for Splash! now available
Splash! is the official after-party of Western Canada Fashion Week, hosted by Latitude 53. It takes place on 1 April at 8:00 PM at North Point on Ninth (10507 109 St) and it’s going to be a good one. Advance tickets are $25—or free for WCFW pass holders—and are now available at www.latitude53.org/splash.
Of course, we’ll be bringing you much more on the event as it approaches. So pay attention!
