Check out this video from the August 9 patio party from InterVivos, one of this season’s patio hosts. Latitude 53 staff members make an appearance!

It’s the final night of our rooftop patio series! The summer has gone by way too fast and tonight is our grand patio finale. And don’t worry about the weather — the party is guaranteed to go on, rain or shine.

It’s a special late-night patio that goes from 5-11 PM, and there will also be an artist talk by our last Incubator artist, Dallas Whitley, at 7:30 PM. Swing by, get a final taste of the patio, and check out all the great art still up in the rest of the gallery.

Also remember that while summer is almost over, that means it’s just about time for our annual festival of performance art, Visualeyez! Keep an eye out for more details on a special Visualeyez patio party coming in September.

Leslie Sharpe, this week’s Incubator artist, is planning a participatory event for the Rooftop Patio tomorrow. She told us a bit about it, and the rest of her project based on migratory patterns of caribou that she tracks online, her recent work is about restaging these movements in different spaces.

We visited the studio of artist Daniel Chmielewski, where he told us about street art and the street that he lives on, and the way that he makes paintings. See his Incubator mini-show in the Community Gallery until August 11, and catch a talk by the artist at the Rooftop Patio party tomorrow at 7:30.

The Doodys and Blake Betteridge are all in the gallery today with Denis and our install volunteers putting their shows together—currently the floors are still covered with their very large quantities of art, part way unpacked, and just a few pieces have made it onto the walls. It looks like it’s going to be a crazy couple of shows, opening Thursday at the patio!

We’re getting ready for next week’s openings—I Have This Dream and The Flood come down this weekend, to be replaced by Jorden Blue and David Doody’s And All The Queen’s Men and Blake Betteridge’s Surrealist Gestures, which you can see a tiny preview of above. Find out just a little more on our website and come see the work at our Rooftop Patio opening Thursday!

We stopped by Anya Tonkonogy’s borrowed summer studio where she’s been working on a series of portraits of workers from the Alberta oilfields. She told us about visiting their worksites and what she hopes to do in her paintings. See her show in the Incubator Series this week—and catch her artist talk on the Patio, Thursday at 7:30 pm.
