Hardcopy Sunday Workshops

As well as the zine fair itself, here at Latitude 53, Harcopy is going to include two workshops on Sunday the 9th at SNAP:

Printmaking Workshop, 11 am – 1:30 pm, Sunday, June 9th

Learn how to use relief printmaking in your self-published works! Linocut is an expressive and graphic form of relief print that can be quick to execute and have tremendous visual impact. Workshop participants will explore mark-making, cutting, and printing to create their own linocuts. Bring your own ideas for images and even text – supplies will be provided. No printmaking experience is necessary for this introductory workshop.

Cost: $25 (all materials will be provided)

Bookbinding Workshop, 2 – 4:30 pm, Sunday, June 9th

This course will give a quick and fun introduction to bookbinding for the interested beginner. There will be demonstrations of a number of techniques, but the final product will be a soft cover notebook bound with Japanese stab stitch. Please feel free to bring any interesting papers, such as scrap book paper or hand-made paper, that you might want to use for the cover.

Cost: $20 (all materials, including plain paper, will be provided)

Love Those Clothes You Wear: Riding Pretty Our good friends over at SNAP are currently planning one of their major fund-raising events of the year for June 18th. This year’s event will have a bicycle theme (falling as it does in the middle of edmonton’s bike month) and SNAP is looking for donations for their silent auction, as usual with focus on clothes. This year they’ve got a whole work-flow set up for printing submissions, so it’s a perfect chance for artists to help support artist-run culture in Edmonton. SNAP (The Society of Northern Alberta Print-artists) invites our favorite artists and designers the world over to help us create unique, hand-crafted or printed wearable or usable art to our 5th Annual fundraiser event, Love Those Clothes You Wear. Proceeds from this event will support SNAP’s programming, print shop facilities and ongoing public programs. This year Love Those Clothes centers around the fashionable world of cycling, and features a fashion show of clothes by local designers, fabulous prizes, raffle of a beautiful bicycle, hors d’oeuvres, cash bar and a silent auction of one-of-a kind clothing items, accessories or linens. That’s where you come in! We would love to showcase your creative genius at this unique event. We hope you will participate by creating an image or design, and then take advantage of one of the following options: Send your .pdf image to Fundraising@snapartists.com along with your completed submission form, or prepare a drawing on acetate, and let us know which of the dates below works for you to come in and print, with our help – SNAP will provide you with a t-shirt, a scarf, or a bag to print on and all the necessary materials. Out of town? Simply send your .pdf along with your completed submission form; if you have specific instructions about how, and on what, we will do our best to accommodate your printing intentions. Latitude 53 Video Podcast

We visited Patrick J. Reed’s studio where he is working on Wadcutter, his upcoming show at Latitude 53. Wadcutter runs alongside New Works by Brenda Draney from March 5–April 10, 2010, with an opening reception on Friday March 5th at 8:00PM.
